Those who drink tea

Founded in 2022, Those who drink tea is an association aiming to create and promote artistic works, in particular circus and dance shows.

By teaming up with artists and craftspeople from a wide range of disciplines, the association aims to promote original, interdisciplinary works that bring together dance, literature, the visual arts and the world of tea.

The association is named after a circus company in the book "Avant de Partir" by Raphaël Perrenoud.

Its first show, "Going East", is a good example of a creation process derived from literary texts.

The company also proposes workshops on the theme "Tea, text and flow".

Going East

"There is no going back. This simple truth has been central to my life, but I understand at last there is no possible immobility either. You lose it forever even as you take the first step with the intention not to come back"

Going East

A choreographic echo to Raphaël Perrenoud's novel « Avant de Partir », this piece is conceived as an invitation to undertake a journey; to take the first, most difficult step, as well as to investigate its consequences. Two slowly converging trajectories will cross for all too brief a moment.

Going East, by Yuridia Ortega & Raphaël Perrenoud, arises from the meeting of their respective practices : contemporary dance, floor acrobatics and Cyr wheel. The choreography is built around the « de-acrobatisation » of a contemporary circus act as well as the repeated exiles of its creators outside the Schengen area, particularly in the Balkans.

A first production by the Geneva-based company Those who drink tea, the piece premiered at the Rdeči Revirji festival (Hrastnik, Slovenia) on the 26th of June 2021, and was subsequently performed in Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Mexico.
